It's Dinnertime
I'm having people over for dinner and you’re invited.
If you can think of nothing better than a unhurried dinner with friends, read the menu before arriving at a restaurant to prepare the perfect order, are unable to serve a simple meal without considering the tablescape and lighting — this newsletter is for you.
While I am no chef, I like to think I am an adept home cook with an unbearable compulsion to consider every detail of a meal — from developing a specific flavor profile, to the dinnerware and lighting it’s presented with, through to creating an unexpected moment like an after dinner amaro. In the words of friends and family, I have no chill when it comes to food.
Two weeks ago today, I got married. I’ve spent the last six months almost exclusively focused on planning the perfect wedding reception that evoked a sense of familiarity in a grand setting — the best dinner party you’ve been to meets a rave in a 1849 Gothic ex-synagogue.
On the heels of that celebration, I find myself leaning into creating the perfect home and routines for this new chapter of life. Food is a big part of this. Over the previous months of wedding planning, we’ve relied heavily on eating out. This return to the kitchen and home is exciting and very welcome.
I say all this to give context as to why this newsletter, why now. My primary interests are cooking, ceramics, decorating, and clothing. A dinner party is a relatively low stakes combination of all of those things. To me, sharing a meal is the best means for connection. This newsletter will touch on all of this. I will have weekly recaps of meals, preparations, and perhaps using dinner as a place to interview others who inspire me.
Thank you for joining me here. With that, dinner is served.
